Georgia does not guarantee a Medigap switch
Outside your one-time Medigap open enrolment window, and outside the federal guaranteed-issue situations, a Georgia insurer may ask health questions before it sells you a Supplement. That makes the six months after your Part B starts the most valuable window you will ever have here, and it is the single thing we most often wish people had known a year earlier.
Coastal counties are small plan markets
Chatham has the long list. McIntosh, Camden and Bryan do not. Carriers file county by county, and a coastal county with forty thousand people simply attracts fewer filings than metro Atlanta, so comparisons you read online rarely describe what is actually for sale on this stretch of coast.
Storm season changes the calendar
When a coastal Georgia county is named in a federal or state emergency declaration, people who missed an enrolment window because of it can usually still act for a limited period afterwards. Worth knowing in a part of the world where September reliably rearranges everyone's plans.
Medicaid and Medicare together
Georgia's Medicare Savings Programs pay some or all of a Part B premium for households under set income and asset limits, and qualifying for one also opens the door to Extra Help with drug costs. We check eligibility as a matter of routine rather than waiting to be asked.

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county. A plan a neighbour raves about may not be filed where you live, and a plan you have today can leave your county while staying in the next one. Your county of permanent residence — not your postal address, not where you bank — decides the list.
