There is no hospital anywhere near. Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro is about an hour away, and Charleston hospitals rather further. The drive is the whole story.

With an hour of two-lane road between you and a hospital bed, the nearest appropriate facility in an emergency may well be in another county, and a plan that treats that as an out-of-network event is the wrong plan whatever its premium looks like.
