What is an HSA-eligible health plan?
A high-deductible plan meeting the annual minimum deductible and out-of-pocket limits, with no cover before the deductible beyond preventive care.
The rules are technical and the thresholds change each year, so a plan is either certified as HSA-qualified or it is not — it is never a judgement call you should make from the brochure. Marketplace and group plans that qualify say so explicitly.
The prize is the only triple tax advantage in the code: contributions reduce taxable income, growth is untaxed, and withdrawals for qualified medical expenses are untaxed. Note the disqualifiers — enrolment in Medicare, or being claimed as someone else's dependant, both end your ability to contribute.
An estimate for planning, not a quote. Medicare and the Marketplace set your real figures.
