Do I still need life insurance after 65?
Only if there is still an obligation the money has to meet. For many households the honest answer is a small final expense policy and nothing more.
Life insurance replaces money that stops arriving or pays a debt that does not disappear. After 65, that is usually a mortgage that outlived the plan, a pension that pays less to a surviving spouse, a dependent adult child, or a business interest. If none of those apply, a large policy is an expensive habit.
What frequently does apply is the cost of a funeral and the settling-up afterwards. A small permanent policy written for that purpose keeps a difficult fortnight from becoming a financial problem, and it is a very different product from the term cover you bought at forty.
